SETA

There are a number of posts on social media sites and reports on websites about "legacy" qualifications, but what exactly are they? 

Qualifications that were developed before 2009, under the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA) Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) departments were registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). 

The qualifications were based upon the concept of a Unit Standard (US).

The Department of Higher Education and Training has finally gazetted the long-anticipated Directive confirming the transitional arrangements for pre-2009 qualifications to be replaced by qualifications in the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) occupational qualification format.
