In 2008 and 2009, there were a number of structural changes to the education and training landscape.

There has been a lot in the news lately about the QCTO - the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations.

The QCTO is a Quality Council that falls under the Department of Higher Education and Training.

The QCTO is responsible for the quality assurance of qualifications that are registered on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-framework (OQSF) of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). That is qualifications that relate to the world of work - mainly occupations and trades, but also may be professional qualifications.

Our congratulations go to Dr Nzimande, who has been awarded an Honorary Professorship with the Beijing Jiaotong University, in China - our Minister heading the Higher Education & Training Department (DHET) is now Professor Nzimande.

Eye Witness News (EWN) reports that the Pretoria High Court today (Wednesday 1 November 2023) ordered Minister Nzimande to retract his decision to place the University of South Africa (UNISA) under administration.

The timeline of events is as follows:

A report commissioned by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) into the management of UNISA identified instances of financial mismanagement and maladministration.

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) published Regulations for the introduction of the National Apprentice and Artisan Development Advisory Board (NAADAB) via Government Gazette 48524 No. 3383 dated 5 May 2023.

Please see attached for a copy of the Government Gazette.
