PAKISTAN FLOOD RELIEF DAY 27 PART ONE

It's Friday, 17 September 2010. At 2am Breaking news all over Pakistan; one of the leaders of MQM, a political movement, is killed in the UK. Karachi becomes a NO GO area as violence and indiscriminate attacks are the norm. Foreigners are high risk target. As expected, a 10 day, total shutdown is called for in Karachi. Residents know, abiding to this call is Mandatory. The group considers aborting the mission as we have International Footballers with us. For us this is NOT an option. Hungry and Thirsty men, women and children are in desperate circumstances in flood ravaged areas. In our 18 year history we have never permitted anything, including war, to intimidate us in effecting efficient service delivery. Today was no exception.
Then comes further disturbing news from our advanced team in Dadu region; NEW flood waters envelopes their car, floods the airport and cuts the city off. The time to ACT is definitely now. The whole team understands the gravity of the situation. Everyone gives the thumbs up willingly to move in. At 6am, we commence the 5 hour journey to Dadu region. A few hours earlier we had already dispatched 9 trucks to the area.
We arrive in Baajera, Dadu region, which was totally cut off a few days previously. More than 200 villages were wiped out by flood water from Manchhar lake, the largest lake in Asia, which now has expanded from 500km to 1200km.
