Staffing Direct Training Academy (Pty) Ltd in conjunction with the South African Navy Wingfield to open a new training school for welders


To assist in meeting the demand for skilled welders and in line with the “National Skills Development strategy III” the South African Navy has signed a contract with Staffing Direct in Cape Town to set up a welding school for aspiring welders.


The welding School on the Wingfield premises will offer welding “Skills Programmes” and “Full Qualifications” once the new division has been set up. The company is currently finalising formal accreditation for a wide range of welding programmes and qualifications. The formal accreditation process will be finalise before year end and the new welding division will be up and running from February or March 2014 according to Michelle Marais the Training Director.


A contract has been signed as a joint venture with the SA Navy who are setting up the project to assist in meeting the need of the country for welders and as part of their “Corporate Social Responsibility” contribution so as to make a meaningful and positive impact in the community and society as a whole.


Staffing Direct has already established a lasting foot print for their contribution to education and training in the area. The company is a Level 1 BEE contributor and is 100% Black Female owned. Michelle explained that the joint venture will assist in meeting the need to address the shortage of scarce and critical skills.


In the ‘Department of Public Enterprises’ (DPE) 2013 budget vote, the minister Mr Malusi Gigaba, asked for a commitment from State Owned Companies’ to take in young people from across the country for training in several scarce and critical skills such as artisans, and technicians. The new welding school will assist in creating jobs for all the youth in South Africa who take advantage of the opportunities being offered. The minister also encouraged the private sector to play a critical role in ensuring the additional artisans being trained are absorbed by companies and offered employment opportunities in the broader mainstream economy. Without such assistance the learners will be the victims. In addition the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Blade Nzimande, has put out a call for all workplaces to become places of learning.


Staffing Direct has established an excellent reputation in South Africa for providing effective and results orientated training services. According to Caroline Mack the founder and Managing Director “It is our intention to bridge the gap between the unemployed learners and the employers. Through our recruitment and training division we will recruit, train, up-skill and more importantly seek placements for these newly qualified artisans.
