NATIONAL EARLY LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS FOR CHILDREN BIRTH TO 4 YEARS (NELDS)
Since 1994 Early Childhood Development has been identified as a critical area for the country's social and economic development. The Department of Education, Pretoria developed standards that can be used by people who want to provide children with the best possible start in life. There has been standards (a curriculum) from the reception year (the 'old' pre-primary) and upwards, but nothing for the younger child, until now.
Looking at these standards (called 'desired results'), it reminded me of quite a few people that never reached these results, although they are many years pass the stage that they were suppose to acquire the skills:
* Children are learning how to think critically, solve problems and form concepts.
* Children are becoming aware of themselves as individuals, developing a positive self-image and learning how
to manage their own behaviour.
* Children demonstrate growing awareness of diversity and the need to respect and care for others.
* Children are learning to communicate effectively and use language.
* Children are learning about mathematical concepts.
* Children begin to demonstrate physical and motor abilities and an understanding of a healthy lifestyle.
Do you also know adults that must still reach the above 'desired results'?
* Recognition to DEPARTMENT OF BASIS EDUCATION, PRETORIA.
