Unfortunately, as in so many cases in Africa, corruption is rife! As we can see in almost ALL Government departments in South Africa, you can get your hands on anything for a few Rands.

Unfortunately these courses will not entice people to leave the country. The UK is in such a state currently that leaving here to find work there is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire!

That sounds about right David! There are hundreds of local courses and qualifications accredited by SAQA – why not use local? Who is going to pay for learners to go on these courses?

All universities and colleges are out to make money – otherwise they would not be in business! They do not educate students for the benefit, purely of the learner! Yes, we do have the bonafide international courses and ‘the rest’ and I suppose SAQA are correct in going through a process to identify the ‘dodgy’ organisations and sift out the…[Read more]

Thanks, Sylvia for this feedback. Students, with all due respect, need to do some research on the studies they want to take on. There have been a lot of ‘fly by night’ colleges with bogus qualifications over the past years and this is the reason why SAQA need to regulate the industry. Unfortunately SAQA has its own problems such as taking forever…[Read more]

I sympathise totally. Just be careful you don’t fall foul of the Seta’s wrath. I was rejected on a tender recently because my signature had been scanned into the document. When I challenged, I was advised no scanned certificates were allowed. When I retorted that my signature was NOT a scanned qualification and was a signature, not having to be…[Read more]

Hi Kathleen,
Make up a ficticious company. I think they want to see if you got the jist of the course and your understanding of being able to do the job. -

Hi Des,
Thank you for having the courage to ‘talk’ about this but in essence, you are probably opening a ‘barrel’ of worms!

@marietawasserfall Hi Marieta, I noticed your comments on SDF. I am also quite keen on doing this course but I'm not keen to pay a fortune and never get work on it. There needs to be some ROI.

Walter Donaldson replied to the topic SETA Frustrations in the forum Skills Development Facilitators 12 years, 7 months ago
Hi Elsabe,
Many people who work with, for or at arms length with the SETAs share similar frustrations but will not respond to your queries and concerns due to the fear of being ostracised from their sector. Don’t forget many people are independent consultants who rely on this type of work for an existance/living.
You can rest assured that if you…[Read more]
