Hi Louise
I agree, I’ve seen materials that were sloppy cut-and-paste jobs from the internet. So, count me in.

“Providers should show courage by advertising their competence in terms of meta-learning, meta-cognition, thinking skills, etc and achieving the learning outcomes as a spin-off.”
I think this statement encapsulates it. Do we all know what meta-learning and meta-cognition are, how to achieve the outcomes as a spin-off? I for one would like…[Read more]

I’m reposting as there was no reply button, and I seem unable to get to page 2, so apologies for cutting in here:
What is needed is a broad theoretical framework that is shared by all. How do we go about this? The theory is out there, but it seems as if it is not accessed. How do we focus on the learners when there are still training co…[Read more]

How do we focus on the learners when there are still training companies out there that don’t employ thinking skills in the very conceptualization of training? How does one get past…[Read more]

Cas, no I don’t regard memorising as learning at all. I think I was actually responding to your word ‘mastering’, but used ‘memorising’ instead. I think in many instances they sit through chalk and talk sessions, and then simply transfer material from the learner guide to the PoE, without any engagement and certainly no mastery whatsoever. So I…[Read more]

And so I’m waiting for a client who will let me write the learner workbook in such a way that it leads the learner to construct the ‘manual’ by exploring problems, doing research, thinking, discussing, grappling – and going through a wide range of higher order thinking skills – and then arriving at the ‘material’, in other words, a learner…[Read more] -

Hi Cas, thanks for your response.
I think part of the problem is that one writes for a client who hands it over to a facilitator, who is often a freelancer, and the developer, training company and facilitator often have divergent ideas about teaching / training. I had one client (who is no longer active on this forum) who told me my material was…[Read more]

Hi Cas
I agree.
The next question is: As a developer, I find that clients resist updating their mental frameworks, and I understand that, as the main concern is always accreditation. How do we get around this? How do we deal with training companies that want the traditional manual with all the information required, like a condensed text boo…[Read more] -
