Hi Des,
Thanks for your posting.Yes, I believe that Lynel is correct in that it is not all qualifications, because there is a separate clause that indicates that the industry stakeholders could determine differently.
Now, that is not necessarily a straightforward question. It may potentially be a problem, because it depends upon who is making…[Read more]

Thank you Lynel – an interesting answer, and an excellent example.
I will pick up one paragraph that relates to my current research :-
” … there are many unemployed people out there. Unfortunately, a lot of them are over the 35 age mark, and cannot get the opportunity to enter into a learnership, as they are too old.”
If they are over 35,…[Read more]

Hi Lynel,
Overnight, I carried on thinking about what I had said and it made me think that there is something else that needs to be brought out in the implications of the change. When there is a Learning Programme that an employer hosts at their workplace, the learner signs an employment contract for the duration of that Learning Programme. The…[Read more]

Thanks Lynel for very useful practical comments. I like your idea of providers working together to create simulated workplaces. In all the tool-dominated, technical, & IT environments that will be possible.
It may lack the communication & political dynamics of a real workplace, but we need to make choices in this difficult economic environment -…[Read more]

Thank you Christopher, that is a very good observation.
To my mind, we regularly spend time on policy and strategy & legal documents, which are all very professional and look good, but we don’t seem to spend as much time and give as much thought into how will we will actually implement.
Personally, I think that we need to start from the other…[Read more]

Hi John,
Just being pedantic, but surely it should have been:
work-based = anything simulated or related to artificial creation of “work” for the purpose of learning
and then
workplace = at an actual workplace, actual on site learning. -

John, thank you, I really appreciate your additional details.
So we currently may have 4 forms:
Legacy qualifications, not yet terminated,
The old “new” OQSF qualifications,
The new OQSF qualifications that require actual work experience as a third component (similar to above), &
The new OQSF qualifications that require a workplace component that…[Read more] -

Just an update to this post – my understanding is that for Services Seta, the way that their system works, requires you to use 2021 for both the ATR & WSP sections.
So please make sure that you check with your SETA before completing.
