Steven Louw replied to the topic Is the Skills Development Facilitator in current legislation? in the forum Skills Development Facilitators 5 years, 3 months ago
Hi Sylvia and Des,
There is a distinction between Legislation and Regulations. The amended SDA and the NQF Act both do not use the term “Skills Development Facilitator”. This is partially what led to the Association for Skills Development Facilitators of SA changing name to the Association for Skills Development in SA (ASDSA). See http://www.asdsa.org.za…[Read more]
Hey Andrea, Tass. Hello Deonie. I assume the question relates to SETAs and probably a learnership. “Accreditation pending” may not be used. The learners should have been registered/uploaded by an accredited provider and learnership agreements should be in place. If non-accredited use of assessment and moderation tools has taken pl…[Read more]
In this transition stage (from ABET to AET) its a bit vague. A(B)ET 4 being on NQF level 1 further muddies things. Most SETAs have/had AET grant distributions which were in some cases allocated to NQF1 projects.
7 suggested units, I see already listed.
Skills programme so flexible and left up to provider to decide.
Note that Services initiated 2 SDF occupational profiles (OFO) and qualifications for QCTO but it is possible these may be transferred to ETDP.
Thanks everyone for the insights and clarification. I have seen the acronym APL, more commonly abroad, but also as a “brand” or “in-house” term in some SA providers – not to replace RPL. In my opinion SAQA has remained clear and consistent on RPL but some (re) education can do no harm.
I am glad that CIMAP, for which I am the Cape representative…[Read more]
@sylviahammond Thanks Sylvia. Client has put out a press embargo due to an unrelated matter, but I will follow up per your advice when approved by client. Steven
@sylviahammond Hi Sylvia, Tried to compose a mail to you but didn’t quite get there, so this is a bit out of the blue. Quick question: A provider is close to completing a 1000+ learner learnership – the largest by far project utilising RAP funding. What is the route to approaching Skills Portal to give the project some coverage? Thanks

Star kick-off to this dialogue. Your report and other attachments are much appreciated and most welcome.
Just maybe to clarify the levels, I refer to the last slide on the PPT:
The SDF practitioner seems to be finding itself in OFO category 2 (professionals). This is at OFO skill level 5 which equates very roughly to new NQF levels…[Read more]
@sylviahammond Thanks, guess it’s just one of those things. Nice to bump into you at the interseta conference and again on the plane.

Steven Louw replied to the topic A Radio show targetted at all Providers, Assessors, Moderators and SDF’s. in the forum Skills Development Facilitators 9 years, 10 months ago
Another good initiative. For the out-of-towners and those that just missed listening in, is there any way of accessing programmes that have already been and gone? Off the website, or on CD, or via the radio station?
I would suggest that the programme on Assessors/Moderators includes covering their potential (non)-role ito the QCTO.
While we will all agree I am sure that there is no place for out-and-out fraud, I hope that the disciplinary and other measures referred to would start with words like engagement, education, (re-)training & mentoring, remediation, conciliation etc. On a related note, I would find interesting a discussion on time-cost vs billing in terms of…[Read more]
Ingrid is right, it’s http://www.nopf.co.za and this is a combined list of OFO codes. Each SETA may well distribute lists of what they feel is relevant to its sector, but actually they should all come off this “nopf” list. Remember the OFO codes only include 1 x admin clerk, 1 x reception, 1 x director etc, so it would not make sense for the list to…[Read more]
And in fact to go back to your initial posting in this conversation, Des, any provider (accredited or not) can use any qualification and/or unit standard off SAQA’s website. Obviously it’s a totally different matter when it comes to certification and/or funding.
Also, although SAQA may only require accreditation of full qualifications, the…[Read more]
Steven Louw replied to the topic Offering Occupational Qualifications during Grades 10 / 11 / 12 in the forum Skills Development Facilitators 9 years, 10 months ago
Long time no see. Surely this is a voluntary programme, and as there may be some kind of contract involved I presume all parents are party to this decision. So what Services are offering is a choice to the youth – not a compulsory additional requirement.
I think the idea is great, although I do wonder, if teenagers have no idea what…[Read more]

I support this fully and would be happy to participate from the Western Cape (and/or nationally) as I travel a lot. There is an SDF association already (ASFDSA) and there may be other relevant societies so we may have to do some research en route. Let me know how I can participate and what the next steps are.
