Private colleges that offer skills programmes that are accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) delegated by the QCTO, are not required to be registered in terms of the CET Act.
However, these private colleges may be regarded as ‘bogus colleges’ if they off…[Read more]

In an article I read this week discussing auditors, there was an opinion that because auditors are paid by companies it is difficult to be objective in providing services for those companies. In other words, being paid by a company means saying yes to anything they want, irrespective of whether it is legal or not. Being that moderation is in the…[Read more]
Lynel Farrell replied to the topic Questions on why qualifications are dropped or realigned or replaced in the forum "LynelFarrellresponds" questions on qualifications, accreditation, registration, and more 1 week, 2 days ago
I know of some SMME Providers that have also been involved in Developments of a Curriculum. Majority of small providers don’t always take this opportunity, as it is extremely time consuming.
I have nothing against new start-up companies – individuals with experience is needed to assist in re-aligning the curriculum.
The value of a…[Read more]

Thank you Lynel, that really helped me.
I had two thoughts while reading:
1. “industry are involved” mmmm I thought – big business, nationals, multi-nationals.
Are the needs of SMMEs, or new tech/new products start-ups involved? and
2. Do you think that there is going to be a different status – old vs new. A perception of the value of a “new”…[Read more]

Yes, Legacy Qualifications is based on Unit Standards (Fundamentals, Core and Electives). Each of these Legacy Qualifications clearly indicates the Rules of Combination to reach the number of credits, in order to achieve the Qualification. Thousands of Legacy Qualifications exist, whereby many qualifications where…[Read more]
Hi Jenny, I spoke to our technical expert a while back about that – it doesn’t seem that we can – but I will pursue again.

As I understand it there are three options for the legacy qualifications – that is qualification developed in the format that existed before the introduction of the QCTO format:
* drop entirely
Please will you confirm that this is correct – and what guides the decisions about this – and more importantly who decides?
@ Jenny, thank you for your feedback, however,
Some of us are only sdf’s and not training providers. It will make life easier if we have a list in order to do planning with clients for the upcoming mandatory claims.
@ Lynel- thank you for trying to assist….
Hi Ashley, the process that you have explained is correct – the QCTO advises if the Provider must apply to the QCTO or to the SETA – this depends on whether the qualification is a legacy qualification which have not been re-aligned to an occupational qualification as yet. Currently these legacy qualifications are still in force, but we don’t know…[Read more]
My understanding of your trick question, is that any Provider that seeks registration/accreditation against a qualification, will have to submit the Letter of Intent to the QCTO. The QCTO in turn will then advise as to the status of the Qualification(e.g either as an Occupational Qualification / or refered to the relevant SETA).
Is my…[Read more]
Dear Skills Development Providers,

The QCTO published this General Guide to help Learners decide whether a Skills Development Provider is right for them today on the QCTO Facebook Page. The information is important to know.
That is a good start. The question now would be: what happens if the qualification expires on the 30th June 2021? How will you as the Provider, know whether it will be re-registered or not? That is the trick question of today.
Is there anyway to merge the discussion on another group to this group please? It would be great to keep that discussion going here. (if possible).
I have emailed the NLRD Team to ask for a list, and await feedback. Not sure if I will get a list, or guidance as to where to find this list. Will post if given feedback.
