Leon,
There are so many guides, policies and regulations (which are not always consistent with each other!), but as long as you stay out of any area within DHET’s scope and do not misrepresent your status to a degree that it could be interpreted as “accredited”, then all is fine. It is unfortunate that many people have crossed the line by wording…[Read more] -

Agreed Sylvia, unit standards have proven effective in many instances of compliance training and any number of workplace functions that may not be classified as occupations, nor served by a skills programme exceeding the immediate requirements of the employee. While I have always supported QCTO initiatives, I believe they need to pay more…[Read more]

Nigel Shipston replied to the topic How to qualify to be an Evaluator or Verifyer in the forum Verifiers / Evaluators of ETD Providers 1 year, 3 months ago
Hi Zukiswa,
There used to be a Verifier unit standard 7975 which slotted in in between the Moderator and Evaluator unit standards. However, they deregistered 7975 apparently satisfied that the moderator unit standard 115759 was sufficient for both moderator and verifier. The unit standard 15191 Evaluate education training and development…[Read more] -

Hi Sylvia,
While there may be some delays in issuing of SoR’s, not all SETA’s are to blame, in fact many of the delays are a result of providers not adhering to correct QA processes, thus delaying endorsement of results. While the basic First Aid Regulation is subject to a virtually the same wording as that of Lifting Machinery, First Aid is not…[Read more] -

Hi Sylvia,
I have posted much on this topic before, but in short, there was a stage from the early 2000’s when DoEL issued First Aid training Approvals to training providers without any prior accreditation. Many of these training providers operated for many years until 2016 when DoEL introduced a regulation requiring all First Aid training…[Read more] -

We had an incident at the beginning of last year when a provider had delivered “non-accredited” training. The provider in question is accredited with TETA but was offering other “non-accredited” courses. The outcome was:
1. Any learning material used and Certificates may not reflect TETA’s details or TETA related Assessor/Moderator details.
2.…[Read more] -

In recent months a number of insidious situations have been exposed to daylight, revealing blinkered, single minded intent and a process of excluding pertinent stakeholders from decision making input regarding training matters.
In both cases, the instigators have aligned themselves with interest groups whose direction cannot be described as…[Read more]

Nigel Shipston replied to the topic Accreditation with SETAs in the forum Vacancies & Seeking Practitioners for Contracts or Projects 1 year, 4 months ago
Hi Dr Vuyiwe, when seeking accreditation with various SETA’s, it is important to establish the credentials of any consultant in dealing with a specific SETA. Every SETA has their own requirements and what works with one SETA is not necessarily what will work with another. For example I work predominantly with TETA and I have had numerous…[Read more]

In an article I read this week discussing auditors, there was an opinion that because auditors are paid by companies it is difficult to be objective in providing services for those companies. In other words, being paid by a company means saying yes to anything they want, irrespective of whether it is legal or not. Being that moderation is in the…[Read more]

Hi Tass, this has been going on for some years now and is still on the increase. I see people selling full qualification material for less than R2 000.00 and you can guess at the quality and support behind these materials! There seems to be a belief that selling other people’s material is not a problem, totally lacking in ethical and honest…[Read more]

Over the years I have participated in a number of qualification development sessions in my LMO field and other issues relevant to SMME training providers. A common factor is the value of representation in these sessions. To my mind, if an issue revolves around training, then the weighting of input should go in favour of ETD Practitioners who are…[Read more]

Agreed Sylvia! I think one of the major issues with all of these processes is the value of “consultative” participation, where participants may not reflect the true representation of a sector/industry.
I have a current example of Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) Operator training being laid claim to by a non-statutory (voluntary)…[Read more]

To all TETA accredited training providers, the policy is for External Moderation to be carried out on a quarterly (every 3 months) basis. This requires a minimum of at least one internal moderation every three months in order to apply according to the quarterly External Moderation requirements. This aspect is critical for re-accreditation, as…[Read more]

The required process is that the provider is required to train and assess learners, upload details and results to TETA, carry out internal moderation followed by external moderation to verify results.
