Hi – has anyone in this group registered lships through etdpseta as constituent levy payers?
Ie you belong to etdp and wish to put staff on a lship (any qual).
i am having no luck with etdpseta – they don’t seem to know that this is a seta function – what contracts to use or what their process is and I have contacted 3 different people there to…[Read more]

Hi Zebilon – thanks for your thorough answer. Of course formative is a very necessary and important part of the process.
My question was more around what evidence of formative auditors accept – in my experience it is very varied.
i am mainly trying to avoid having to transport vast masses of paper from national centres to our assessment centre…[Read more]

Hi Simphiwe
basically what i mean is how in-depth – have you been required to keep and show every page the learner wrote on or is it not sufficient to show how the learner scored and progressed against the formatives – the tools (masters) themselves can be easily verified as measuring the required outcomes.
i have had very different experiences…[Read more]

I am very interested to find out what other accredited providers and assessors have experienced regarding the level of formative assessment work required to be present at an external moderation.
Please share your experiences as to what your auditors have required – and any written seta policy or guidelines about this issue – many thanks

Melanie Harvard wrote a new post, Termination & notice time period for learnerships 4 years, 5 months ago
Hi
I dont find anything on the actual notice periods required within learnerships on the DoL pages – and the little i have found seems to conflict.
Can anyone clarify if the notice periods are different on a […]
-
Hi Melanie,
For clarification – are you asking about when a Learnership agreement is terminated before the full period?
Learnership agreements for unemployed 18(2) learners are effectively fixed term contracts – that is the duration of the Learnership. Therefore, the contract automatically terminates on that end date.
So from my understanding, the only time one would want to have a notice period is when a termination is before that end date. To terminate a Learnership contract before the end date would be for a serious reason, related to the employer circumstances, or serious misdemeanour from the Learner, which may well justify a summary dismissal without notice..

I am still busy researching the latest developments – so please correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t short programmes be covered under ‘part qualifications”?
I agree that after very many years of having the QCTO lurking on the horison doing very little – and also with very little information available about future trends – and then to have us hit…[Read more]

Anyone working in the seta-space can totally identify with your frustrations. I have been doing it for nearly 20 years and so i empathise completely.

they are over 30. and yes – that is my exact concern – if i give them the level 5 then they may still not have a matric equivalent if they ever want to use that for CV/training purposes. Logically a level 5 is obviously a higher level but may not hold as much value as a matric equivalent to someone who has no matric. I hope you can follow my reasoning?

I was thinking the same thing . . . all i see is really more shake-up and hence more confusion for the poor man-on-the-street – with further delays from clients who will need to understand the new structure – and further delays from the new structures as they find their feet and more than likely face exactly the same issues you outline – of…[Read more]

Having been working with setas and before them the training boards for over 18 years, in my experience you get 1 or 2 interested and engaged people working at the setas – who are like gold – but the rest seem to be place-holding and have lost interest and motivation along the way. They lose sight of the impact of their actions on organisations and…[Read more]

Melanie Harvard replied to the topic Assessors get raw deal in the forum Discussions on Assessment & Moderation 9 years, 3 months ago
It really depends on what the assessor/moderator is bringing to the mix. If it is just their expertise and their time (plus of course the fact that they have acquired seta registration to assess etc) then a fair fee would be based on an hourly rate, really. I do not agree that the higher the level the more you charge, as actually the lower level…[Read more]

Melanie Harvard replied to the topic Criteria & guidelines for unaccredited short courses & skills programmes in the forum Training Service Providers 11 years, 11 months ago
Hi Andreo
There is no legislated requirement for you to accredit everything – you as the provider need to look at market need in relation to what parts of your training you accredit or not. Of course, your institution has overall accreditation as well. As long as you do not mislead clients in any way about the status of your programmes, you are…[Read more]
