Marilize Marais replied to the topic The basic education Afrikaans text book is wrong. What to tell the children? in the forum

And I think THAT is exactly Sylvia’s dilemma. What do we tell our children and students when we as educators clearly see/know that the material in use is substandard but we are outside the circle of people who implement, approve and influence the material dished up.
With inconsistent and incorrect application of language rules we are condoning t…[Read more] -

Hi Althea
I have to differ with you in regards to answering linguistic questions according to curriculum if the curriculum material is clearly incorrect. All languages have their own grammatical structures and rules. Similar to the way Sign Languages internal linguistic structure significantly differ from both English and Afrikaans to name a…[Read more]

Afrikaans language textbook wrong. O my soul Sylvia.I still had the blue Afrikaanse woordelys en spelreels book which I had to learn by heart because I was taught to spel phonetically leading to very creative but incorrect spelling from my side. It might be an good idea to get them one of those books if it is the actual language textbook getting…[Read more]

Hi Sylvia
Yes this surely is a concern. My eldest started grade 1 this year with little miss short on his heals in a years time. I have a keen and healthy interest in history. Reading both local and international research and publications, recent as well as much older from various authors and perspectives. In my venture discovering quite a few…[Read more] -

Morning Rolf
Glad to hear that you received corrected documents.
I have not been that lucky thus far. I have submitted my documents to both Services and ETDP SETA in November 2014.
ETDP Seta is seemingly ignoring me completely, I was asked to resend my documents twice in January which I duly did.
I am getting no response from there. When…[Read more] -

Marilize Marais replied to the topic Certain SETA Accreditation As an Assessor in the forum Discussions on Assessment & Moderation 7 years, 6 months ago
Hi Victoria
I also had a recent run in with a SETA requesting me to resend my application after I requested feedback on the process. I send a 4 part e-mail to the officer. Later I called to confirm receipt. The officer was not sure if it came in so I provided the sender e-mail and subject line. The officer opened one e-mailand within seconds…[Read more] -

The companies I worked for also had employees sign an acknowledgement of debt when send for training over a spesific amount.
This was for specific periods like you stated 6 – 24 months. This measure was taken in these companies to safegaurd against “hit and runners” aka staff receiving training and then resigning once training is completed. This…[Read more] -

Steve I have to fully agree with you. From time to time we forget that the definition of diversity and grounds for discrimination is not always fully understood by all stakeholders within an organization hence the lack of stereotype free diversity interventions or total disregard of this training by companies and when interventions needs to take…[Read more]

In my opinion employees first need to understand that they are reporting to a position with specific deligation authority irrespective of who is in the position. I think that we can all agree that women and people with disabilities are still disadvantaged we just need to look at our EE reports and management. Employees should at induction receive…[Read more]

Agreed the committees are often not skilled to participate. I have experienced that where the two committees are combined and training are provided, the employees are able to provide insight into training needs knowing what the requirements are from the EE side. We often fail our employees by not listening to suggestions coming from the pool of…[Read more]
