sylvia hammond started the topic Who is the Minister responsible for post school education? in the forum Basic and Higher Education 1 day, 20 hours ago
As skills-universe members will know – I am very concerned that we refer to things correctly – like bogus colleges.
Today at his media briefing, Minister Blade Nzimande made a very interesting point – clarifying his title and departmental responsibilities.
So, Dr Blade Nzimande is the Minister of Higher Education Science and Technology,
and his…[Read more]
thank you for following up on this post – we still need a lot of clarification on what accreditation is and what it entails.
Great thanks for comprehensive response Lynel.
& thanks for the explanation – and also the DHET lists.
Thank you – that is a very interesting question. I do not know the answer.
Are there any ministry study qualifications registered on the NQF?
I will send a message to Lynel & ask her as she has been actively involved in this area.
Thank you Brian, you make a very interesting point.
We know that there are actions in place already to standardise quality assurance in the SADC region, and recently Botswana advertised a position.
So it will be very easy to obtain the equivalence of the qualifications achieved in those countries.
But is it a good idea for our economy to be…[Read more]
sylvia hammond started the topic EE Deadline date -15th January 2020 in the forum Implementers and Trainers of Employment Equity Act 3 days, 8 hours ago
Today is the date for submission of employment equity reports.
Do you have your reports – EEA2 & EEA4 submitted – and have you received confirmation from the Department of Employment and Labour?
Over the last few weeks, I have had a number of calls from people asking me for my interpretation of the EEA4 report. I have done my best to understand…[Read more]
Hi Lynel – the Foodbev have a very good team – & need I say – a woman at the top 🙂
Thank you for your post – I didn’t respond to your post when I read it last year – although I could really relate to your frustration.
I really like your comment on people doing it for themselves. Over time, observing successful people generally – they don’t sit around waiting for officials.
It seems that is also the feeling that…[Read more]

That really is very concerning.
I would suggest contact senior QCTO management directly – they are in the process of recovering the mandated quality assurance responsibilities of the SETAs.
Dear all -I realise that I am going to accused of being pedantic – but English is a complex language with odd idiomatic expressions that confuse non-first language users.
So to my understanding –
– a “fly by night” college – offers something, takes money, and then disappears with the money – without providing what they offered;
– a bogus…[Read more]

Thank you Sylvia !
I so wish, I had met their criteria
Yes, it is always disappointing when we see something and think – I would really like to do that but I don’t have the right qualifications.
But it is also a very good indicator to consider on what to do in future for your career.
I once applied for a job that I didn’t get. I really didn’t know the answers to the questions that were asked in the interview. So I registered for a course of study. Even though I never went back to that original employer, I did use the knowledge in an even better position.
Ok, thanks for your response. It makes sense. I am still looking forward in doing business with Afrikan countries starting with the neighbouring countries like Botswana and others
Thank you for your posting.
I think that the last sentence is not clear – for those parents trying to understand our very complex landscape.
Please clarify – if the college is offering an international qualification, can they be registered in SA to run that?
What are the SAQA requirements?
A sad announcement from South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), to end the 2019 calendar year – and the last posting of skills-universe for 2019.
Please see attached the SAQA announcement of the retirement of CEO Joe Samuels.
I have the highest regard for Joe Samuels. He has been one of the most pleasant, knowledgeable, and constructive…[Read more]

After all the expense of the festive season and holidays for some, comes school and school fees.
This is a reminder of the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) judgement, which allows single parents to apply to schools for reduction in their school fees.
The court recognised that is most cases, after a breakup of the relationship or marriage, it is the…[Read more]

Thanks for posting your request.
Just to clarify for you – there is no such thing as accredited material – anyone using that term is misleading you.

At long last we are making progress.
Now Engineers nd such like who complete NQF qualifications must also be given appropriate recogniition. The relevant institutions who offer registration and or accreditation of professionals must decide on what qualification other than a university degree will be accepted.
