I would like to know why, when approached to facilitate and assess Learnerships, one is expected to work for a very low daily / hourly rate? I was asked to facilitate five fundamental maths unit standards in five days and assess them as well. The groups were between usually 10 – 12 learners so hours to complete assessments alone amount to ro…[Read more]

I am in full agreement with the above suggestions. We need to be able to cost our services according to both the time needed and the level of skills necessary to train and conduct assessments on specific unit standards.

Yes Deon, one cannot assume that the individual making the decision whether or not to grant “accreditation” is qualified to do so. Often this process can be alikened to a Geography teacher attempting to mark Matric Maths papers. Unfortunately this seems to be where the whole process falls down, most SETAS do not appear to have access to suitably…[Read more]

When we “peel the onion” ,the practical, frightening ,indefensible, sad truth is that those of us able to impart knowledge, skills , training etc are prevented from doing so, and the real “sufferers” once again are those who were denied(and still continue to be ) a sound educational base from which they are able to improve their lives and…[Read more]

This issue(judging by the responses to Itebogeng’s initial question) is a very “hot potato ” at the moment. I come from an academic/teaching background and confirm the sentiments as expressed above. Firstly it is virtually impossible for one to get material accredited. Secondly a great deal of “accredited ” material is substandard and therefore…[Read more]

You have expressed my sentiments exactly,Wilma, I have personally, written and developed content and material for both my areas of expertise and despite great success ,and fabulous feedback from delegates, I cannot get my work accredited by the setas, who are so obsessed with “red tape” that I can no longer afford to waste invaluable time bea…[Read more]

Hi Des, the requirements you describe above are similar to those for Providership and this is exactly why, in 2012 despite being an accredited assessor with both SSETA and Fasset I am unable to offer my training services to potential clients and so, have to find other ways of making a living. There is a “rock solid” template that must be compli…[Read more]

Hi all,
Unfortunately this industry is plagued by those trying to make a quick buck from “fresh air”. How about all the adverts claiming to assist with seta accreditation ?

@timthetrainertimdebruyn Hi Tim,
As I am still awaiting feedback from Fasset regarding the QMS I submitted along with my application to become a provider, I am not sure that it covers all their requirements.
