It’s been a long year, and I know you are tired and cannot wait to take a break. Please do not let your guard down on all the protocols that need to be in place for you, your staff, and your learners. Safety first! Compulsory Masks, sanitize and/or wash those hands, keep those registers going.

Hi Sylvia,
I totally agree with the number of months taking into consideration the festive season.
Here is my understanding:
Most Legacy Qualification’s registration end date was extended to 30 June 2023. We note that some have expired and will not be re-registered again. Even before the Occupational Sub-Framework came in, the rule of thumb…[Read more] -

Thank you Sylvia – I missed this important gazette, completely missed the weekend (still studying and attending classes every saturday) and then I got Maryna tapping me on my shoulder (virtual tap) and sent it to me. I have not taken out my highlighters and sticky notes as yet, but noted:
1. Simulated Work Experience.
2. EISA, FISA and…[Read more] -

Thank you Sylvia,
I picked out two sentences which was important to me:
1. The number of SMMEs and the variety of businesses must be expanded.
2. Reindustrialise the economy focusing on growing small businesses.Once again, everything is about the higher education institutions and the TVET colleges – nothing about the Skills Development…[Read more]

Hi Tasmin,
Please be careful when contracting with Assessors/Moderators when dealing with Occupational Qualifications – especially Trades. I have seen that some Assessors/Moderators have been registered against the trades, whereby they don’t have proof of qualifying in the trade. Your SME must have the Trade as well as the stipulated years…[Read more] -

It seems that we are not just living with a pandemic that cannot be controlled at this stage, but a very complicated world of chaos. Discussions are great, and various members that gives input to solutions – are what we all seek. Before attempting to address this to SAQA, it would be good to list the legacy qualifications that are…[Read more]

Hi Sylvia,
I am not sure how the data is audited. I know the AG audits each SETA – been there when that happened (many years ago) – very stressful, where you drop everything you do, and give the auditors what they want, without delay. It would be interesting to see if the data that is uploaded to SAQA is audited – so what goes in, is in fact…[Read more]

Hi Sylvia,
It is a very important post! My understanding, is that the SETAs had to obtain information from all stakeholders regarding legacy qualifications that had an end date of 30 June 2021. A list of Legacy Qualifications which have not been re-aligned to Occupational Qualifications as yet, that have learners enrolled – needed to be…[Read more]

No problem Jenny!
If we look at the Gazette No. 44031 published on the 24th December 2020: National Qualifications Framework Act, 2008 (Act No. 67 of 2008) – Determination of the Sub-Frameworks that comprise the National Qualifications Framework (signed off by Minister Dr Nzimande) it clearly states on page 35:
