Gail Gibson replied to the topic Draft National Labour Migration Policy for South Africa in the forum Industrial and Employment Relations 11 months ago
I think this paper is going the wrong way by not addressing the elephant in the room.
The South African labour market was unable to create enough decent employment due to a combination of factors BBBEE and lack of skills, resulting in high salaries for low productivit. This has resulted in many businesses closing head offices in South Africa…[Read more]

Gail Gibson replied to the topic Critical Skills List – LMIP research project report published in the forum Careers, Jobs & The Labour Market 1 year, 11 months ago
Either this list is faulty or the environment is faulty- the number of people with skills that are on this list sitting at home or emigrating because they can not find work makes one question the research methodology.

I am not sure this is the forum, but B-BBEE scorecard extremely offensive to persons who has had any ethical training. My international partners were horrified at the fact they had to count males and females of different races and could not believe we South Africans had not objected to such practices. Indigenous South African should suffice as a…[Read more]

Gail Gibson replied to the topic Can more be done to assist our "Post School Learners"? in the forum Post-school Education & Training – including TVET 5 years ago
It is sad to see education in South Africa has come to a situation where we can see the failures. Maybe we all need to think of how we can help at this low level of education.
I for instance do on-line training programs. I could squeeze in a couple of hours design work a month in order to create training programs for secondary school syllabuses…[Read more]

I would also like to know the answer to those who drop out after primary school. I have a number of persons known to me who are desperate to learn, but have no funds. Most have had to look after their siblings after parental deaths.
If anyone can give me guidance to help these poor souls, I would much appreciate it.
I have in two occasions put…[Read more]

Gail Gibson replied to the topic Fair pay for Facilitators, Assessors and Moderators in the forum General – topics not covered by categories 6 years, 8 months ago
I think most vendors pay appallingly low rates for the service they expect. Vendors wil try and bully you. I know things are tight, but when people offer rates lower than for a semi skilled person then you start to question what their offerings are like.
As an experienced assessor, I have seen rates go down from when I first started in 2005.…[Read more]

Hi Prem,
Are you qualified as an assessor or moderator though the EDTP?
If so then decide which Seta you need, and prepare to fill in forms as each has a different requirement. You have to justify with your academic credentials what you apply to be an assessor for. You can not register as a moderator unless you have 3 years proof of working a…[Read more]

Hi Des,
I agree, but maybe we also needed this conversation. It shows the thought processes prevalent which we need to address if we are to go forward. We are not a happy society.
It will take great maturity to move us to a place where we can agree to be united in the future vision of a employable society with employment and education can…[Read more] -

Item 6 is highly needed.
I agree with the bribery aspect. I have also turned down training contracts that have strings attached. Even in big companies there are unethical issues that definitely impact on training. It does not make operating in this society easy though. -
