Sylvia,
You have touched one nerve but there are some more out there!
The one is NATED N4 – N6. This set of qualifications was developed from the Report 190/191 to offer a vertical progression for lower management, such as executive secretaries etc. This led to the series of Legal/Medical, etc. Secretary at N4 to N6 level. These…[Read more]

Sylvia,
Thanks for raising an extremely important issue. Must admit my focus had not quite been on this aspect and while I am happy to see some movement towards the ending of certain ‘historical’ qualifications I had not been aware of these practices you mention.
For some unknown reason there has been a mass migration to Facebook and maybe you…[Read more] -

May I add my meagre contribution to this issue in support of both Mario and Renee.
One of the respondents mentioned in passing the possibility (?) of ignoring the SETA’s and the QCTO and re-establish something like the old industry training boards. As far as I know only in Mario’s case is there a legal requirement that forklift drivers, crane…[Read more]

Sylvia,
Thanks for the post. In all honesty, do you expect a reply?
I appreciate that the QCTO is (like the rest of the world) suffering from the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic but unlike the rest of the world they seem to have gone totally underground. Asking for the most basic of courtesies, i.e. acknowledgment of a submission, is met with…[Read more]

Mesdames,
Appreciate that it is a bit late to reply to this. Also appreciate all the hard work that had gone into this. I know that the QCTO staff are reluctant to provide their cell numbers – with one or two noticeable exceptions! Would it be possible to add cell numbers as well? I have a few that I can provide – most of these people are…[Read more]

Sylvia,
A long time ago I made a similar proposal to the QCTO about the allocation of verifiers, the big chief had a look at it and then sent it to the people who could introduce it with a note that he thought it had merit and they should look at the implementation – from there it went to File 13 and disappeared into the information black…[Read more]

Sylvia,
I think the correct answer to both questions would be: Yes and as far as the delays are concerned, also yes. To this I must add an update: There has been an improvement in the process and one can get hold of the staff by cell phone.
Phineas Makhope says he does not find if we publish his cell number – he deals mostly with the ‘technical…[Read more]

I had just pressed the Send button when a caller asked me some questions which I could not answer.
1 Are the Skills Programmes registered? Yes they are registered on the QCTO website, HOWEVER they are not registered on the SAQA NQF list. As far as I can recall the skills programmes (or short courses) offered under the auspices of the SETA’s…[Read more] -

The QCTO has quietly launched the 24 Skills Programmes without any fanfare! These programmes were developed in conjunction with the appropriate industries to solve a very specific shortage in the labour market – create a production unit that can fill the gap between the totally unskilled (off the street) worker and an artisan.
These programmes…[Read more]

Mesdames,
I will be the first to admit that I did not read the report, or even skimmed it. Thanks Lynel for bringing the pertinent pages to light. Paragraph 4 of your reply to Lynel about the Unit Standards not being with us post 2023-06-30 set me thinking as I have always thought this date was cast in stone and will not be amended again as it…[Read more]

Des, Thanks.
I think it is clear that we both grew up when SERVICE was mesured with a different yard stick! If ever my section got mentioned in a newspaper I would be on the Regional Manager’s carpet before the newspaper even hit the floor.
Unfotunately this problem has been coming for a very long time – even before March 2020 when the QCTO…[Read more]

Lynel,
You are 200 % correct about the issue register and congratulations on the work you had done and are doing on this issue. THe fact that you had assisted more than 400 providers should have set the alarm bells ringing at the QCTO.

Sylvia,
Thanks for the post – as Lynel says, it is important to all SDP’s.
Unfortunately it does not address the main problem emanating from point 4: All applications are to be submittted online! Once you submit an application you receive an undated, unnumbered reply from the system acknowledging receipt and indicating that a response will…[Read more]

Lynel,
It is very nice of the QCTO to inform the public about the hospitalisation of their CEO but they fail to attend to the complete collapse of their communication systems – paragraph 6.1 of the public notice states in bold letters that complaints should not be addressed to the CEO’s email address – because it is patently obvious that…[Read more]
