DHET updated List of Skills Development Providers (applicants) published 15 July 2019. Two updates in one month is remarkable. Things are happening! Thank you DHET Private Colleges Team!
A report by the Organisation for Economic and Cultural Development (OECD), demonstrates very clearly to us exactly how big our challenge is – and how important it is for us to make progress on implementation.

Good day Providers!
I am excited to present a workshop on the Application for Accreditation to the QCTO and the Application to register with the DHET. My workshop is a combo workshop that will take you through the complete process of both applications. The workshop dates are based on the requests received from providers per province, and I have…[Read more]
I just wish for once they would see through some of the plans already in place and not continue to introduce new plans. Nothing ever seems to materialise and be brought to conclusion.
On Friday 12th July 2019 – Minister Nzimande presented the department budget and way forward. The following are some of the highlights to watch out for in future.
First, watch out for the new acronym – the National Plan for Post-School Education and Training (NPPSET) has been completed, and will soon be released to give practical planning eff…[Read more]

Thanks Nigel. I appreciate your response.
If you have contacts who have complaints about material from skills-universe members, I would be interested to hear from them.
I am particularly interested in any misuse, or copying or appropriation of material.
I do also think we should distinguish between brokers, who sell long lists of…[Read more]

Goedkoop indeed Sylvia!
Having specialised in the field of lifting machinery (forklifts and cranes) and dangerous goods for the last 20+ years, I am reluctant to embark on programme development in fields outside my expertise. It is important that a developer has subject matter expertise along with input from other SME’s. When I see these…[Read more]

Hi Pieter, the Regulation requires that all First Aid training providers must be accredited by a SETA before they will be considered for DoL Approval. This was mainly for DoL Approved training providers who did not have SETA accreditation, and have been given until March 2020 in order to achieve accreditation. This is much the same process as…[Read more]
Nigel Shipston replied to the topic WHAT IS THE LEGITIMACY OF THIS PRACTICE? in the forum Concerned Providers Interest Group – QCTO/SAQA/SETA 3 days, 15 hours ago
As I recall in one of the SAQA Guidelines, there was a section that related to this topic. The idea was that an unaccredited provider, with perhaps limited resources to achieve their own accreditation, may use a JV/SLA with an accredited provider on provision that the unaccredited provider must fall under the accredited providers QMS. This would…[Read more]

Hi Sylvia and gang, unfortunately even in this field there are people who lack any realistic values when it comes to “earning” money. We’ve had the same with learning materials and accreditation “experts” whose concern is not for providers, but rather feathering their own pockets by praying on the unsure and less enlightened. Highway robbery of…[Read more]
Hi Pieter, have you looked at the DHET published List of Private Skills Development Providers (Applicants) which was updated on the 9th July 2019? If your name appears on the list, then the DHET received your application, which is in process of being evaluated. If your name is not on this list, then you need to contact the DHET, provide proof of…[Read more]

Thanks for your responses Maxine and Tass.
Love the comment about the psychologist 🙂
On Maxine’s comments and overall, I do think it is an issue when bureaucrats in departments make incredibly complex requirements for compliance.
I recently read something on the B-BBEE requirements under the dti – and had an OMG response.
Now it makes me…[Read more]

Those registration costs seem a bit too high.
The figure mentioned is however accurate for a start up Training Provider, who will use a consultant for the various steps for accreditation. And only teach ONE Qualification.
So costs are to purchase material, get a proper Qms, submit. Then add the costs of Assessors and moderators. Also premises…[Read more]
There are so many people who approach me who want to start a Training Company. I ask the first most important question. Do you have the Capital?
This is not get rich business at first. Its a long term commitment to your community. To build futures. And it’s also about the ethics of taking money from often very hard earned money from parents, or…[Read more]
