Historical changes - NQF Qualifications Sub-frameworks-for comment
We have many new members, so please excuse me when I repeat my position. When I raise criticisms of our structures, or processes, it is not because I have a political agenda - I fully support our skills development agenda. I want us to succeed.
Why do I feel so strongly? Because I genuinely believe that we need to redress our history of exclusion from education and training.
Hi to all,
This is a copy of a post from Lynel Farrell, in February 2021, where she was querying with SAQA & QCTO the end date of qualifications.
As you will the date mentioned at the end of the post is: 1 July 2021 - yesterday -
Is anyone able to provide an update on these qualifications, please?
Lynel Farrell
Response from SAQA reads:
Please scroll down the discussion - SAQA presentation now attached.
Congratulations to Dr Julie Reddy - the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
I have long held the view when you need difficult conversations to be held, and difficult decisions to be made - appoint a woman.
SAQA has two. Board Chairperson Professor Peliwe Lolwana, and now CEO Dr Julie Reddy are certainly two women who have a rocky road ahead of them.
The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) has issued an invitation to comment.
There are 3 areas:
1. intention to register the South African Sports Coaching Association (SASCA) and a number of designations;
2. register of additional designations for South African Institute for Business Accountants (SAIBA); and an
3. additional designation for work at height.

Minister Nzimande, on advice from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) published the amended Determination of the sub-frameworks that comprise the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), dated 29 November 2020.
It was published in a one hundred and forty (140) page Government Gazette dated 24 December 2021. It is GG 44031 No.1391.
It repeals the previous determinations published in 2012 and 2013.
I have extracted pages 33 - 36 and scanned and attached them.
Minister Nzimande, responsible under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), for the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) has gazetted the new SAQA board for 2021.
Congratulations to Prof Peliwe Lolwana, appointed as Board Chairperson. Please see attached for details of the members.

For those members who do not receive the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) newsletter, today's letter contains the very sad news that SAQA will be forced to reduce their staff complement.
The attached Pdf of the newsletter explains the financial constraints leading to this decision.
Following up on a previous discussion regarding SAQA and the quality of records on the NLRD, I picked up this post, quoted below. I have brought it into a new discussion, to bring to everyone's attention, and so that it is not lost in a very long and complex discussion.
'I have noticed that SAQA changed their terminology and now refers to the “record of learning” as “an extract from the NLRD” ' - posted 5 September 2020.
For those members who have been following the previous discussion on the National Learner Records Database (NLRD), we also ventured into Foreign qualifications. As it is a rather long discussion, I thought I would start a new discussion for those interested in the process for foreign qualifications.
The Policy and Criteria for Evaluating of Foreign Qualifications on the SA NQF (as amended) March 2017 is the relevant document.
I have attached the document, so you can check if your foreign qualifications comply.
