    SAQA Bulletin 2017(1) “Learning Pathways for Sustainable Development, the NQF, and Lifelong Learning in South Africa” was released on 29 March 2018.

    The Bulletin has eight papers based on the SAQA-Rhodes Partnership for research into learning pathways for sustainable development.

    The papers explore (1) an appropriate unit of analysis for learning pathways research, (2) ‘boundary making’, ‘boundary crossing’, underlying mechanisms, and pathway navigation by transitioning learners, (3) a literature review of learning pathways research, (4) ‘absenting absences’ in learning pathways, (5) case studies of learning pathways in a local government context, (6) Environmental Engineer learning pathways, (7) pathway system support elements, and (8) a ‘laminated systems perspective’ for deep understanding of learning pathways.

    A ninth paper by international authors shows how successful collaborative development can lead to a responsive curriculum in the sustainable development context.

    Bulletin 2017(1) is suitable for anyone interested in research and/or development in learning pathways, articulation and learner progression – for sustainable development, or any emerging or established field in an NQF context.
