Got a head for figures? Are you the person who always works out who owes what on the bill? Then the courses offered by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) could be your ticket to a successful career in accounting.

Flexible learning that opens doors worldwide

There is an alternative to the lengthy and expensive accounting degrees offered by universities. The ICB’s range of internationally recognised courses can be studied via numerous accredited training providers nationwide, including Damelin, Boston City Campus, Intec and many more. The courses are modular and the workload is flexible – meaning you can take on as many or as few as your commitments and budget allow.

Each course in itself will equip you with skills that you can implement immediately and practically – but they also build on each other to form qualifications. These qualifications span the whole range of a business’s accounting needs, from Student Bookkeeper (SBIcb(SA)) through to Certified Financial Accountant (CFAIcb(SA)). The modular structure of the ICB’s courses means you are always progressing towards those letters after your name... letters that will make you attractive to employers in South Africa - and all over the world. Find out about more about the courses we offer online at www.icb.org.za or call us on 021 685 2746.

Financial skills shortage

According to the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande, there is currently a skills shortage in the financial sector. This doesn’t just apply to top level positions such as chartered accountants and auditors, but to all levels - from junior bookkeepers through to senior bookkeepers and accounting technicians. So studying towards a qualification from the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers is a shrewd move right now!

Earn while you learn

ICB courses can also get you out into the workplace quickly. Andrew Carlsson, the ICB’s CEO, says, “While accounting degrees can take up much time and money, the way our courses are structured means that learners with accounting acumen can climb the career ladder quickly. At even the lowest tier of learning, you’ll have skills that make you very employable.”

And if you think you might start your own business someday, the skills you’ll learn with the ICB will be invaluable. You could start your own bookkeeping business, or get another type of business off to a great start with your solid foundation of financial knowledge.

Make sure it’s accredited

If you’re looking into the options available to you to further your education, make sure that the training providers you consider are accredited by an Education and Training Authority body (ETQA) and that the qualifications they offer are registered on the National Qualification Framework (NQF). The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers ticks both of these boxes.
