Greetings of Peace

Dear Recipients

Members of SKISA Team South Africa are raring to "Go for Gold" at the forthcoming Gift of the Givers International Kanazawa Cup Tournament scheduled for 30 April 2011 at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Durban University of Technology campus.

An important aspect of this tournament is the official launch of Gift of the Givers Japan Earthquake campaign at the event "which promises to be the biggest ever in the history of the tournament; more than 800 of South Africa's best tournament fighters are expected to do battle in the 'Best of the Best' for the Kanazawa Cup individual titles", said Tournament Director Kyoshi Sonny Pillay.  All eyes are on Sensei Brando Pillay, SKISA chief coach and a ten time winner of the event.

Teams from Bangladesh, Botswana, DRC and Mozambique have already arrived in Durban for this grand event.  More international teams are expected by Friday evening.

The tournament, a major attraction on the South African Karate calendar, is open to all instructors and interested tournament fighters.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and witness discipline, obedience, mind control and physical power at its best.

The Chief Guest is Japanese karate maestro, Shihan Manubu Murakami, (two time world champion), who will be conducting a Masters Camp prior to the competition. Shihan Murakami will also be involved in a Township Development Workshop for 400 disadvantaged children from Inanda, Amouti, Kwa Mashu, Ntuzuma and Phoenix on 3 May 2011.  Meals will be provided for the children and each child will receive a shirt and pants set from Gift of the Givers.

Shihan Murakami is the official representative of the 80 year old Grandmaster Kancho Kanazawa and second in command, who will officially carry the message of South African solidarity for Japanese earthquake victims.

Gift of the Givers has already contributed 30 000 USD within 48 hours of the earthquake taking place to the Grandmaster who is responsible for Gift of the Givers relief activities in Japan. (Attached is a profile of the Grandmaster, which is a must read for karate enthusiasts and those wanting to learn more of what is described as the third most supported sporting code in the world).

The SKISA girls Kata team are SA All Styles Champs; at the recent Soweto nationals, SKISA produced 8 Proteas; 11 SKISA members have been selected to represent SA at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Sydney in July 2011; Brando Pillay has been appointed All Styles National Coach to Karate South Africa.

Both the Kanazawa Cup and the Children's Development Workshop has been sponsored by Gift of the Givers for the last three years.  For more details on the Kanazawa Cup, Masters Workshop and Children's Development Workshop contact Kyoshi Sonny Pillay on cel. 0825577784.
