    Hi everyone

We have recently started looking for aligned material for the IT System Development Qualification in order to run a developer Learnership next year to create properly skilled developers.
We were shocked to find that the material we viewed on the IT Unit standards – was copy and pasted from Wikipedia and contains nothing of substance to show one how to write a line of code, and the assessment tools are equally vague and based on providing evidence for the Unit standard descriptors.

I am finding myself reeling in shock that there is such material out there. Help me – is there better material out there or is SA really in a deep crisis with regard to adequate skills training?

I am deeply concerned that we are not producing IT talent and the NQF unit standards on it are old and outmoded. QCTO is for trades. Business has long moved on. Is there no think tank to fast track IT qualifications? Where is MICT SETA in taking the lead here? Where is the government?

I am generally shocked at the poor standard of material. There are only two development companies that I trust at the moment, and sadly neither of them specialise in IT. I also struggle to find developers for this. If you find anyone with good IT material please drop me a line too! material@creatividad.co.za

I certainly will Tass. We are going to use our own material and adapt it with an alignment specialist. Our material is far better – but not NQF aligned. We are going to have to get our heads around the alignment matrix and create material worth training on. I am very keen to create online assessment tools too.
