Legal Practice Mentorship offered by Bisset Boehmke McBlain

By sylviahammond, 20 September, 2016

Did you know that the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) has an empowerment and transformation project called LSSA Synergy Link?

In this project, prominent, successful law firms assist smaller law firms to master specified legal practice areas.

The small or growing firms can also receive guidance on how to run their law firms more efficiently.

The LSSA is proud to announce that Bisset Boehmke McBlain is offering to assist a small, predominantly black-owned law firm in these practice areas:

  • High Court litigation
  • Property and comveyancing
  • Lower court litigation
  • Deceased estates
  • Commerical and corporate law
  • Practice management

Bisset Boehmke McBlain believes that the key requirements to run a successful firm with confidence include a properly qualified, happy staff and professionals; an excellently serviced client-base;  a marketing plan; appropriate resources and equipment as well as good budget and debtor controls.

In what format will the assistance take place?
This will be determined by Bisset Boehmke McBlain and the law firm selected to participate. The assistance will, therefore, be provided on an agreed basis for an agreed period of time.

Which firms can apply for this assistance?
Bisset Boehmke McBlain has specified that it would like to assist a firm that
1.  is predominantly black owned;
2.  is located in the Cape Town metro;
3.  wishes to pursue skills transfer in the above-mentioned areas;
4   is seriously committed to the process;
5.  must enter into an agreement regarding time, location, method of transfer and expectations;
6.  must be prepared to maintain the necessary portfolio of evidence for B-BBEE purposes (see below for sample portfolio of evidence); and
7.  will undertake to provide a signed progress report and the portfolio of evidence to the LSSA during and after completion.

Bisset Boehmke McBlain stresses that it wishes to deal direct with fellow professionals at the growing firm, and not just the staff of the firm.
