The Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) is exactly that – the basis on which employment at workplaces is governed.
The Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) has issued amendments to the Regulations under the BCEA Act.
The amendments include a revised Summary – that has to be displayed at all workplaces – or made available to all employees. For example, in an office environment, on an intranet.
Then there is a series of forms, including for the official appointment of inspectors – all relating to how the DEL will ensure employer compliance with all the legislation, that the department is now responsible for.
In addition to the BCEA itself, think of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) Act, (and potential enforcement via the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA)).
Also -relevant to skills-universe members – the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF deductions for learners.
The Employment Equity Act (EEA), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and the Compensation for Occupational Injury and diseases Act (COIDA), all fall under DEL.
Please see attached for the fall Gazette, including the Summary to be displayed/made available to employees.
