News24 is reporting that the appointment of the new University of Cape Town (UCT) Vice Chancellor (VC) has been finalised - although there does not seem to be an official notice from UCT.
Professor Mosa Moshabela, who has been appointed VC was currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation at University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN).
The National Research Foundation (NRF) records his qualifications as:
- an MBChB from UKZN’s Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine;
- a MMed in Family Medicine from the Medical University of South Africa (now the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University);
- an MSc in Demography and Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; and
- a PhD in Public Health from the University of the Witwatersrand.
At a time when access to health care is under the spotlight with the signing by President Ramaphosa of the National Health Insurance Bill, the research focus of Professor Moshabela as recorded by the NRF is most apposite.
"His research focus on implementation science cuts across multiple disciplines, and involves the design, implementation and evaluation of complex interventions in healthcare services and programs, and seeks to improve access, quality and equity in healthcare, for resource-poor settings in sub-Saharan Africa."
