By sylviahammond, 12 September, 2011

COSATU in the North West has sent its deepest condolences to the families of the victims of an accident which happened on Friday last week in Zeerust in the N4 toward Rustenburg.

Indeed this is a very shocking incident for our country in particular the North West province and it is also a great loss to the teaching profession and the education sector at large as this is the second time it happen for the Department of Education. In 2006 we lost 14 educators on the road of Lichtenburg.

COSATU calls on the Department of Safety and Liaison to fully investigate the cause of this accident and to also intensify their safety programmes to make our roads safe.

To the families of the deceased, COSATU would like to send its deepest condolence and this is not only your loss but the loss to the entire nation which include the school kids that these teachers were taking care of, it is a lost to the workers as this 11 educators were workers in our system.

COSATU would like to plead with the Department of Education and the North West government to give the families of the deceased all the support they may need during this trying times.

We call the police, the investigators to do all within their power to deal with caused of this accident.

Solly Phetoe, COSATU NW Provincial Secretary,
