Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande has welcomed the continuing probe by law enforcement agencies of claims of people attempting to sell places to study medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

"This is a matter which we take very seriously and we commend both our law enforcement agencies and institutions of higher learning for working together to rid the higher education system of this scourge".

In February 2017, I published an article on LinkedIn

The crux of the matter was merely that although most of the DHET registration requirements may make perfect business sense, the use of outdated application and in some instance, irrelevant Legislative DHET requirements for particularly Skills Providers may cause detrimental unintended consequences. A heads up to all Material Developers – When you develop materials, please also note that several SETAs now require a separate Moderator guides for every Unit Standard, not a generic one such as was accepted previously AND in some cases pre assessment moderation reports for every Unit Standard – The materials developer should be aware of SETAs latest requirements for materials – especially the ServiceSETA changed twice in 2 years.

Much has been said recently in the press and other forms of media on the subject of racism. What concerns me is what appears to be a lack of understanding as to what exactly racism is. Under no circumstances can I or do I personally condone racism and I must point out it is not my intention to defend racism or racist behaviour.

However, the Minister did point that the SETA Boards might not be extended.

We have made this submission on the part of all training providers, and particularly Close Corporations, who are being put at risk by the DHET Registration requirement of 10 years ago, and are not being accepted for Registration.

Employment Equity requires companies to bring about change in leadership particularly at the higher levels of management where male dominance continues to maintain control

Recent research by a variety of organisations shows that women leaders tend to have significantly happier, more highly engaged teams. Companies with women on their boards outperform those without and diverse teams outperform non-diverse teams. This being the case, why are companies reluctant to change and bring more women on board in leadership roles?

Grief and Trauma are a part of life and cannot be overlooked. Death, tragedy and other forms of trauma will lead to grief and in many cases a need for grief counselling.

When a loved one dies family members need comfort. They need to be with others who are prepared to listen, who will try to understand or who have suffered a similar tragic loss.
