A Systematic Review of Challenges in Research Supervision at South African Universities

I have observed that not all those who do not complete their Master’s degree at any university can be regarded as having failed. As a matter of fact, completion of a Master’s degree needs a proper collaboration between student and supervisor; student and employer; student and family; and finally, student and self!

The study found a plethora of barriers to successful completion of postgraduate studies. As a matter of fact, most students complete the course-work and remain with the Research Component of their studies. It is at this juncture that most find themselves facing an academic concrete wall. The following study’s main objective was to understand the nature of challenges in postgraduate research supervision.
