Gender transformation in the workplace


Gender transformation and gender equity is still problematic in South Africa. To the best of my knowledge the Gender Equity Bill missed its deadline in 2015 and nothing much has happened since then (correct me if I am mistaken please).
The EE Act does assist in the area of Gender equality but is this sufficient? The other piece of legislation passed in 2014 is the Women Empowerment and Gender Equity Bill (WEGE) The aim of the WEGE Bill was to introduce measures to empower women and girl children – including women and girls with disabilities, pursuant to section 9 of the Constitution which provides that: β€œTo promote the achievement of equality, legislative and other measures designed to protect or advance persons or categories of persons, disadvantaged by unfair discrimination may be taken.”
It is quite obvious there is a problem when it comes to Gender Equality in the workplace, so I ask three questions in the hope of some comment.
1. What in particular is the cause of the problem?
2. What can be done, or is being done to alleviate the problem
3. Are women given equal opportunities in the workplace – is gender equality alive and well?
