Business Leadership Insights! from “The Dimensional Entrepreneur”
Whereas not everyone one can run their own businesses – everyone can still be an entrepreneur. This is where i totally encourage organisations to encourage Corporate Entrepreneurship – whereby employees are encouraged to apply concepts of entrepreneurship at work. Companies who practice corporate entrepreneurship do the following:
(1) Embrace Innovation
(2) They are Proactive
(3) They take (calculated) risks
The opposite of Corporate Entrepreneurship is Conservative Enterprise. The latter are characterised by:
(1) Less Innovative
(2) Reactive in handling situations
(3) Risk adverse
FACT IS ALL ORGANISATIONS OPERATE ON A CONCEPTUAL CONTINUUM BETWEEN THESE TWO SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT – EITHER HIGHLY ENTREPRENEURIAL OR HIGHLY CONSERVATIVE.
YOUR ORGANISATIONAL POSITION ON THIS CONTINUUM IS DEFINED YOUR ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENSITY.
LEADERS, MANGERS – what is your Entrepreneurial Intensity?
Thank you Craig – i think it also depends on the organisational entrepreneurial intensity – might not work well in an organisation that is highly Conservative. Entrepreneurial Organisations should allow innovation and creativity – But again i hear you well – the risks indeed are not that comparable but so are the benefits – not comparable either!
Corporate entrepreneurship is an interesting concept, but being an innovative employee on a guaranteed monthly salary is not the same as running your own business. The risks are just not comparable.
