Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.
Community Development Initiatives International (CDII) is a South African registered Public Benefit Organization and has a network of international associates committed to identifying special projects which positively impact upon and capacitate communities.
CDII launched its “We MiND Campaign” to create awareness about Motor Neorone Diseases and to facilitate fund-raising initiatives to assist individuals with MND approved by the CDII
“We MiND Campaign” Committee.

MND is relatively unknown in South Africa and, in fact, in Africa – that is until one of our rugby legends, Joost van der Westhuizen, was diagnosed with MND. We at CDII (Community Development Initiatives International) have met with representatives of the MNDA of South Africa and with sufferers and supporters of MND. This has led us, as a non profit organization, to start a campaign to create awareness and to raise funds to support MND patients. We have called the Campaign “We MiND” and would welcome support for the Camapign. As CDII’s slogan states “Together we are Stronger”. Please share this appeal for support with your friends and networks.
