My name is Ayesha Sidar I was reading your blog about the FET colleges….I don’t have your contact details but I would like to talk to you or send you information about a conference and learning expo that my company has organised together with the Ministry’s of Basic and Higher Education called Education Week which takes place in Johannesburg 28 -30 September 2010 at the Emperor’s Palace.
Your invitation to participate, collaborate and connect at Education Week
Education in South Africa faces a number of critical challenges, and we are constantly being reminded of
them by the media: low levels of literacy and numeracy, poor matric pass rates, insufficient student retention
at higher education institutions, lack of employment opportunities for graduates, poor motivation among
teachers, and insufficient teacher training and professional development, to name but a few.
At Education Week, however, we want to look beyond the problems, and instead focus on the solutions
and share the successes. At last year’s Education Week, Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga,
acknowledged that government alone cannot solve all the problems we are facing. It requires the collective
efforts of the public and private sectors, business and academia. She applauded the Education Week
initiative, encouraging us to continue our efforts in bringing together all these stakeholders to collaborate in
seeking solutions and finding innovative ways to address these challenges.
Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande, has also recognised the value of such an initiative
and has assigned his Special Advisor, John Pampallis, to address Education Week delegates on his vision of an
integrated post-school education and training system, which will culminate in a skilled workforce able to lead
South Africa confidently through the 21st century and beyond.
