Mandela Day and Skills Universe members involvement

I posted a suggestion yesterday that all members of Skills Universe should consider contributing a minimum of R100 to a fund for the improvement of one school in the Eastern Cape.
Sylvia has expressed her agreement and now I would like to know from others if they are prepared to contribute. I have suggested Sylvia manage the funds if she is in agreement to do so and those members in the Eastern Cape decide on what school is most deserving.
Join us in celebrating Madibas Birthday in the name of Skills Universe.

Let's consider special Schools. Maybe Saint Barts in Port Elizabeth that work with autistic children

Hi Alan

I think it is a wonderful and fruitful suggestion that will go a long way to members community involvement. It  also shows the individuals commitment to education, training and concern. This will make the old African saying "it takes a village to raise a child" come true. Good one.Plse send further details.

I'm in.  It will be difficult to decide the most deserving, and our members may not be best placed to do so.  It may be best to work through an NGO in the area who could identify the needs and direct the funds. And perhaps our members could guide us as to which NGO to work with?

As Siyabonga said, Bank details?

Thank you all for the responses received so far and for the willingness to contribute. I suggest that since this is a Skills Universe joint effort that the logistics and decisions related to what school etc be left in the hands of Sylvia and her team - assuming they are willing to do so. I am awaiting a response from Sylvia. Let's do this and just keep it simple. Any members wishing to encourage others to participate please feel free to do so. The more we can donate the better. Thanks again.

Depending on the response to this initiative we could make a decision about perhaps assisting a different school say every six or 12 months as suggested by Berend Buys.

Des Cross makes some valid comments but on this occasion let's just do it. If we feel it is a success then we can formulate something more structured and consider various options.

Whilst Siiyabonga's suggestion is sound, I do worry that we will now spend forwever holding meetings and discussions. Can't we "Just do it!".

Without wasting any time...

We need to be making logistical arrangements... May i suggest that members in each of the participating provinces meet before/on Wednesday 11 July 2012 and provide feedback in the form of the 5W's (Who, What, When, Why, Where)

I can organise the Western Cape plenary together with other Western Cape based Skills Universe members.

I am contactable on 081 508 1886 or siya.dilimeni@gmail.com
