Re-establishment of the SETAs

Started this discussion. Last reply by Lynel Farrell Oct 13, 2015. 7 Replies

So all the SETAs have been re-established until 31 March 2018. At least this takes the uncertainty out of business for another two years.  But are there no consequences for non-performance at all? Continue

SSETA reaccreditation

Hi, we are an accredited provider with SSETA (via MoU with BANK).  I have been battling to get errors on the accreditation letter sorted out, plus our period has expired (we have a blanket renewal letter but employers are mistrustful of this) and I have a few different letters as we have added to our scope.I spoke to Mohammed who told me about : Accreditationext@serviceseta.org.zaapparently I send them all the old letters and they send me a new, correct consolidated one. with a new expiry date…See More

karen deller replied to Amelia Laubscher's discussion Question: Is it best practice to hand POE's back to learners after verification and certification? in the group Training Service Providers
"HI - I agree that the PoE is better off with the learner.  They can refer to it, use it to supplement their CV, etc.  But we have been told by both BANKSETA and SSETA that we have to keep them in storage for a number of years (three in…"

Engaging with learners using on-line tools In the flipped classroom

Posted on September 17, 2013 at 12:17 0 Comments

We are using the Edmodo platform to liaise with learners between classes. Edmodo is a free, on-line application that allows a “teacher” (it’s a system designed for schools) to hook up with “students’ by posting messages, quizzes, surveys, marks, chats, etc. I also used it for providing the learners with a library of articles for each class intervention and for doing the formative assessments. It’s a really cool app (well I thinks so) and its free, which of course makes it all the more…

Confessions from a flipped classroom - day 5

Posted on August 30, 2013 at 15:11 8 Comments

The learners have all just left, full of excitement to be going home after a full week.  Many mentioned feeling mentally tired from needing to think and constantly justify their arguments and points of view – good evidence for me that they really had been applying themselves.

The day started well.  Last evening before the learners left I referred them to skills universe and the blog page, so a few had actually read it before coming to class.  (I had not wanted to refer them…

Experiences from the flipped classroom - day 3

Today didn’t start off that well.  I started by asking how they were finding the methodology and the project they were working on (they are designing assessment tools, guides and activities a la the “Design and Develop OB assessment tools unit standard).  They reported being frustrated with their knowledge level in comparison to the tasks at hand.

We debated whether they would be in a better position if I had taught the theory (from experience of having done just that I know…
