The correlation between educational grades and literacy levels

Posted on July 25, 2012 at 17:42 0 Comments

Many a Human Resource practitioner have been faced with this problem; the Literacy levels of employees present very low – even for highly educated candidates. Can it be accurate?

The definition of Functional Literacy should be revisited: Having the reading and writing skills necessary for everyday living, including work. Theoretically this implies a skills level equivalent to eight years of formal schooling in the language in which…

Why the need for more ABET?

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 12:03 0 Comments

At a time in the South African training landscape where the concept ‘ABET’ elicits quite negative reactions, why would one bother to invest in yet another ABET programme?

Taking cognisance of the fact that Employers have not seen much of a return on ABET investment, and that learners do not seem to take full advantage of the opportunities judging to the high drop-out rates, one indeed needs to reflect on the sensibility of developing new product or embarking on new projects.…

Totally stupid provider got it right!

Posted on August 29, 2011 at 12:26 16 Comments

In follow-up to the posting on August 11, I would like to announce that the ETDPSETA has finally managed to evaluate my three levels of ABET Literacy programmes and has declared them APPROVED!

Even though I am very thankful to be able to continue with this line of business, I am convinced that the process to comply to the requirements should not be so energy draining and definitely should not take this much time and effort from the client-end to drive the progress. I will continue to…

Am I the only totally stupid training provider?

Posted on August 11, 2011 at 14:17 49 Comments

I have been a fully accredited provider with ETDPSETA for some years now – although working on small scale as compared to Learnership delivering providers. I have successfully presented developed and aligned learning programmes (of which one is the Develop and Design course) for approval, and I have regularly negotiated the increasingly bureaucratic quality assurance system to upload learners with success. (Without much hope that it really ensures quality learning...but that’s another…

Hello Zerelde! ... that you are not alone in your frustration may be of some consolation -- but "back at the ranch" -- isn't this totally an area for the Minister himself to address? Maybe if an avalanche of emails, phone-calls, etc is levelled at him, there may be some action? He's been making all the right "sounds" in the various media -- and surely we are entitled to "call him out" on his utterances? Remember the old saying ... "The squeaking wheel, gets the grease!" Go for the TOP!  Let go the "minions"!  Len.

Hi Zerelde

Do you know of any training providers in Cape Town who might be looking for facilitators/assessors/moderators?

Thank you for the compliment. We had the best facilitator. You just know how to bring out the best in people.

I am looking for freelance work currently. I am also a qualified moderator. Just completed some moderation today. Was good.
