To quote Edmund Burke "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I have no fear of reprisal from any source, particularly when we are dealing with a system that so desperately needs…"
This research project on “Quality Assurance Challenges for Private Providers in Post-School Education in South Africa” is being conducted by Jacqueline Baumgardt for purposes of obtaining her Doctorate in Education (specialising in Education Management). The purpose of the study is to investigate the experience of quality assurance by tuition providers in the private education arena and may therefore provide some input into future policy development of the educational authorities. My credentials…See More
Wow, that took me about 10 minutes of rolling around on the floor hilarity before I could even consider answers to these questions.
Public interest first? At a time when we should be encouraging entrepreneurship, emerging…"
Congrats, it all finally came together! Sorry I have been so quiet, been hectic. Since our last contact I have relocated up to JHB from Durban and am now working for one of the training providers in establishing ETQA…"

Whatever you do, whether it is 50% up front and 50% on completion, or 100% on completion, always retain something important until the full amount has been paid. For example, if a report is necessary for the provider to continue…"
I think that the majority of the problem stems from focussing on Assessor and Moderator registrations and not looking at the higher levels of ETD Practitioner in the QA process. Originally there was a set of 4 unit standards…"
Depends on the ETQA. They all draw from the same SAQA Guidelines, but over the years the processes have been mauled to a state of total inconsistency. What should have been an important element in the QA of Assessment has…"
One of my pet concerns! As an assessor or moderator, you are required to be registered against certain criteria. In many cases, ETQA's seem to have no such criteria for external moderators/verifiers or even the ETQA…"

Thanks for your message. My personal opinion is that the training and education field is over regulated, and like a monolith or a 3-toed sloth simply gathering moss and mass! The bottom-up view that I will be taking will seek to provide a different QA paradigm - which has not yet been designed! Hopefully my research will lead to the creation of this new paradigm.
Hi Nigel Thanks for your message. It’s early days yet and I have not started my actual research but I will be looking for people to survey/interview, etc when the time comes, so will definitely keep you in mind. I think this website might also give me access to private and/or workplace providers - I hope so anyway.
Obviously I am doing a lot of reading at the moment as I will be doing an international global developments overview as well as looking at the politics and economics of the situation as well as the developments in SA as they unfold with the QCTO etc
The research proper will probably only happen early next year once I’ve worked my way through the preliminary stages of the doctorate but the proposal has been accepted.
