Nicci Attfield replied to Des Squire's discussion Rape in South Africa in the group HIV and AIDS discussion group
"Des has always questioned masculinities and what it means to be 'men' on this site and this group in particular.  I think this is the work we need to do at the moment.  Des, I wonder if this article would interest you,…"

Nicci Attfield replied to Des Squire's discussion Why do we resist change?
"I think that you spoke about the heart of resistance when you said that change is toxic but also a tonic.  Change feels so uncertain and sometimes it threatens our world views or the way that we have looked at life, ourselves or other people.…"

Nicci Attfield replied to Des Squire's discussion Should Union Shop Stewards be qualified?
"Hi Des, It's quite difficult when barriers become drawn between people.  The debate about who is poor and who is not can be quite difficult as well, because it sometimes refers to class rather than race.  I think the ultimate goal…"

Nicci Attfield replied to Des Squire's discussion Should Union Shop Stewards be qualified?
"Tebogo, I agree that there needs to be a change in corporate culture so that one group of people is not seen to be doing the 'race' or 'gender' work.   "

Nicci Attfield replied to Des Squire's discussion Should Union Shop Stewards be qualified?
"Hi Des,  I don't really know the context of what you describe above, but I think that within the political context of South Africa and the debates around EE, it may be helpful to create dialogue around race and social inequality, in order…"

The time to ACT is long overdue and we really need to get all PEACE LOVING PEOPLE to respond to our cries for justice. We cannot tolerate any longer the kind of abuse and callousness agains CREATION and more particularly agains CHILDREN, WOMEN and SENIOR CITIZENS. We are all guilty and responsible by not highlighting the inhumane and inhuman that filters under our skin. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, make some suggestions as what we can DO!

It is almost a culture inherent in the bones of South African men that believe that they are "macho" in hurting and abusing innocent children and women, as well as the senior citizens I might add.

Government and civil society is not coming out strong enough by saying "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH". We tend to give too much attention to the villains "SKUNK" than to the victims. We really need to arise from our slumber and strategise, as well as be proactive in getting our society to realise the shame that these villains "SKUNKS" are bringing onto our rainbow nation, and to bring rapid and genuine reform in our nation's culture and value system. We really need to emphasise national dignity and respect for CREATION.
