SkillsEdge was established in the beginning of 2010, recognising a need for well-developed learning materials and quality assurance services relating to behaviours that have an impact on the bottom line of any organisation — customer/guest service, supervision and management — to realise the vision and mission of an organisation, and to set an organisation apart from the competition.

SkillsEdge’s approach is to identify critical skills and performance requirements and translate these into effective learning programmes, coupled with assuring that service delivery is in accordance with the standards of an organisation and aligned to the vision and mission of the organisation.

Learning materials developed by SkillsEdge are designed to be relevant to the target group and include ample opportunity for practicing and implementing skills at the workplace.

I develop learning material, focussing on my areas of subject matter expertise: supervisory and management development, new venture creation, skills development, learning barriers, coaching, mentoring, customer service and customer service management. With ratification by technical subject matter experts, I have developed numerous technical learning programmes.

Developed more than 200 programmes under the auspices of ServiceSeta, W&RSETA, ETDPSETA, FoodBev and MQA.

I also assist training providers with accreditation with ServiceETA and W&RSETA.

Marie visited Disney World Resort in Atlanta, USA, in 2005 to learn first-hand from this internationally-acclaimed guest experience organisation on how to create memorable experiences for guests.

She was trained on the implementation of quality management systems and quality assurance during an 8-year period as Head: Training Section, South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).

Project-managed development of full qualification (and developed most of the material) for mining management.
Extensive experience in management, management development, behaviour change through coaching and mentoring.
Experienced entrepreneur, understanding SMME retail.
Registered HR Professional with SA Board for People Practice (ETDP)

Hi, Marie, we are still in the initiation phase of the establishment of SAPTA. We had our founding meeting in November 2012 in which an Executive Council was elected. SAPTA has been registered with CIPRO. Three dedicated work groups were established to focus on the pivotal areas, namely: Governance; Membership/certification and Marketing/administration.

We plan to have our first networking breakfast sometime in April in which we will invite all interested stakeholders to join us and a more formal event in June 2013.

Essentially, SAPTA's vision is to instill and foster a culture of professionalism amongst trainers and to be the custodian of the rights, interests and needs of trainers. Indeed a tall order, but we have a fantastic ExCo and work group members to drive the process.

You are welcome to register and/or volunteer for the work groups. Our next meeting will be mid-February. SAPTA will be using Skills Universe and LinkedIn as communication platforms.

ServiceSETA requirement for agreement if learning material is purchased

Most developers of learning materials are probably aware that the ServiceSETA adopted a new procedure for accreditation earlier this year. Where they previously evaluated the online application for compliance and then arranged a site visit during which the evaluator evaluated both the QMS and learning programmes for programme approval, they now first do a desktop evaluation of the documentation before arranging a site visit.
