Tell us about what you do
A sought-after and compelling inspirational keynote speaker and advisor, Karl “The Networking Guy” Smith became widely known through his signature talk: Leverage The Power of Networks for Personal and Professional Success. He speaks to hundreds of financial and other service professionals around South Africa … and more recently in other African countries and the UK. He advocates that one must win with oneself to win with others.

In addition to refining and reinforcing his message in subsequent books (Beyond The Business Handshake, Networking Etiquette 101, 50 Deadly Networking Habits, Secrets To Getting Referrals and How To Position Your Personal Brand as an Expert), he founded Business Networking South Africa to help professionals and organizations to reap the dividends of solid business relationships and a remarkable reputation advantage. He has earned respect and heart-felt thanks everywhere with his consistent professionalism and motivating programmes.

He is consistently ranked by audience surveys as "knowledgeable", "insightful", "entertaining", "motivating" and "pragmatic". By the conclusion of the sessions there will be no doubt how to use what is learned as well as how to apply it to other current and future situations. Karl's clientele is diverse and ranges from premier financial institutions to associations, regulators and many others.

Says Karl, “I’ve learned from my own experience, from the experience of other experts, and I've taken my share of bumps and learned the hard way too. There are some simple solutions I've discovered to the mistakes that well-intentioned financial and other services professionals make every day. Mistakes that cost you time, clients, income and diminished self-value. And I'm here to help you bypass those bumps and pitfalls I ran into along the way.”

In late 2000, Karl bade farewell to his full-time job, Southern Region Senior Executive for The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants to start a partnership. He didn’t bask long in the newly found glory before he realized that he was in for trouble. He soon discovered that it takes much more than handing out business cards to get clients. Rather than dwelling on the cold reality of financial struggle and abandonment, he poured himself into networking, referral, personal branding and success literature.

He wanted to learn and turn it into a meaningful spiritual pursuit. It worked! Within three months he had his first clients! He started sharing his success secrets with a group of trusted clients and he watched their success unfold before his eyes! As he continued to reflect on his life and as he connected the dots of key events, he emerged as a dynamic inspirational and influential speaker. Over time he has created a comprehensive networking, personal branding, referrals and personal excellence turnkey system, bottled it and he is now sharing it with the world!
