A passion for training

Started Aug 20, 2012 0 Replies

Actually I feel "passion" is a bit overused but it suits me to use it in this context so if it seems trite I do apologise!!Many years ago, in another life, I was trained as an instructor. Many…Continue

Erik Eilertsen replied to Samantha Schwenk's discussion Informal training providers vs SETA training providers
"Ian Webster raises a pertinent and worrying point. I am trying to start a small business that will probably be web-based but may to a small extent flow over to my car-port. It may, or may not, include an element of training. All that is irrelevant…"

Erik Eilertsen replied to Des Squire's discussion When will we start communicating?
"If someone does want to start such a course (as suggested by Charles) I would be happy to be contracted to help present it. I have no accreditation but have been trained as a trainer - with much experience of training and explaining in…"

Erik Eilertsen replied to Des Squire's discussion When will we start communicating?
"There has long been a problem with unrealistic demands. In my opinion much of it stems from a very poor grasp of the economics of how business and, indeed, simple home budgeting works. Whether the union leaders fully understand the principles is…"

Erik Eilertsen replied to Madivan van der Merwe's discussion TRAINING: Growing South Africa’s Skills Quotient
"While many will agree with this article it is unfortunate that in these fora we are, for the most part, "preaching to the converted". There are so many examples of "by the book" insistence on degreed candidates only to find that…"

Erik Eilertsen replied to Des Squire's discussion Are Private Providers really to blame??
"You might ask why the hospitals and healthcare are in the mess they are, Karen. You suggest that government aspire to highest common denominator but we know they would rather tear down and bumble around with what appears to be NO denominator at any…"

"There seems to be a really closed clique of people who either cannot or will not admit that a piece of paper is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to assessing someone's abilities. Notwithstanding that spurious qualifications can easily…"

"Why do I detect this knee-jerk reaction that because someone is not qualified they must be a fly-by-night, tenderpreneur type? And mainly from the mainstream practitioners. If innovation and participation are not encouraged surely one winds up with…"

Profile Information

Tell us about what you do
Well I have not yet started to panic but have been recently retrenched after 11.5 years with the same company. I have worked mostly in the 2 way radio industry for the last 32years since I left the army. I was in the Rhodesian Corps of Signals as a regular soldier for 16 years. Had some command experience and very thorough training in all aspects of radio comms. I also did instructors courses that equipped me to instruct and I have been able to do so off and on over the years. Now the field is jumping and I cannot continue even though I touch-type.
What companies or organisations are you with?
None really - I have a profile on Linked-in and a few job sites
