That awkward moment in recruitment when…

"Hi Sylvia, I agree with you fully, there is definitely a difference between lying and showcasing different things on different CVs. But when a candidate says in one CV, that they have been a Logistics Manager for the last 8 years in one company, and…"

That awkward moment in recruitment when…

"Now this is an interesting point.  There is a difference between lying and showcasing different things on different CVs. I would suggest that having one single standard CV is not the ideal situation.  No adult can fit everything…"

When are Recruiters allowed to do references?

Posted on June 18, 2012 at 7:55 4 Comments

A Recruiter is only allowed to do a reference on you if you have given permission. But be warned if it’s on your CV then technically speaking permission has been given and they may phone before your interview and before your chance to explain your situation!
Recruiters…

I am convinced my Manager was a psychopath!

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 9:03 9 Comments

The reality of the situation is that in life you get good Recruiters and you get bad Recruiters. A bad Recruiter will accept your “I left my last job for greener pastures!” and move on with the rest of the interview. However it will only take a good Recruiter a few more questions around the subject before you say something like. “But I am convinced my Manager was a psychopath!” (oh no did I say that out loud?)

Don’t panic I also worked for that person and you would be surprised how…

The reasons why Recruiters don’t phone you back!

Posted on May 29, 2012 at 7:58 11 Comments

All you have to do is have a look at Hello Peter to see how extremely angry candidates get when Recruiters don’t go back to them. I understand their frustration as they took time out of their busy day to apply for the job, spent money to go for that interview, only to be abandoned and left hanging without any feedback on the final outcome of the recruitment process. I agree it is rude and unprofessional!

In my defence I have always tried to go back to candidates and I even received…

Why should you have all your jobs on your CV?

Posted on May 25, 2012 at 7:27 4 Comments

A candidate asked me why I thought it would be a good idea to have all of his jobs on his CV???  And I answered with the following 5 reasons:

  • You never know what a Recruiter is looking for. You may not have been successful for the current job, but now that they have seen all your experience, you may just match the next job that comes in.

  • Some recruiters will need all of this information to complete their recruitment process, and with the…

Scams in the recruitment environment

Posted on May 15, 2009 at 17:15 3 Comments

Fax Scam!

I am still receiving feedback from candidates who receive an unsolicited email requesting them to fax their updated CV and supporting documents (which generally includes ID, Drivers licence and certificates). The fax number 086 email to fax number and in some cases they also claim to be contacting you from one of the larger recruitment agencies! Unfortunately scammers use this information to steel your identity and qualifications and in the worse case marry you off or open… Continue

Hi Denise,

I am attaching 2 examples(cut &pasted) of the emails that request an updated CV even though I attached one to the application I submitted as response to the job adverts that I got from Indeed Job Alert.

Our client (UN organisation) has tasked us with finding a freelance expert to conduct interview assessments. We have the job description for purposes of facilitating the provision of a proposal.

The total number of candidates to be assessed is 11 (eleven), out of which the best 3 (three) will be competency based interviewed by the client and shortlisted for the assessments.

The client would like for the consultant to conduct assessments and tests on the best 3 candidates and the administered tests and the transcripts from candidates submitted for their office records.

Hi Denise,
I've discussed it with Alan & we think that it is ok to put on your page & you can use the Forum as well. We're a bit concerned about sending to the group members - especially if it's not directly related to the group members interests, they may be irritated by it & think it's a bit like spam.
We do get complaints from members if they think the group activity goes a bit "off message".

Hi Denise, thanks for the info on your company - at the skills portal offices we have been asked for referrals to companies that can assist employees with retrenchment.
A discussion thread on recruitment would be great - go to Forum at the top of the page & then on the right hand side you'll see "Add a discussion".
I'm an HR generalist, I consult to a few companies, write some content for the skills portal, am working on some training courses to present at the GHM Entrust Academy, and am registered with UCT for my PhD - researching ABET.
