Poverty Unemployment & Empowering Youth

Description

Poverty Unemployment & Youth Unemployment

What would appear as the missing role/voice not represented in the complex "Fees Must Fall" protests? I am not any wiser to give a 'correct' answer myself if any exists but simply am curious.

I am curious about the the voice of the 'black' child who struggles who is represented by the astute knowing white student.Does this child speak for themself or someone speaks for them and if they spoke would the same issues they would raise align with those already on the table(if there is a table at all)?

Firstly I want to thank you all for the support and motivation you have given me over the period that I have been contributing on this forum.

Secondly, I need your input on project that is not so much about making money, but it is borne out of my conviction that there is significant work being done within the realm of skills development within the EC. That so much more can and must be done is undeniable.

ILO Campaign: How will you help to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals at work ?

23 September 2015

Dear Colleagues,

The ILO  has launched today  a social media campaign asking ILO's constituents, in particular Unions around the world how they will help to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals at work (SDGs).

We would like to kindly ask you to help promote the campaign by reaching out to your members and asking them to tweet their answers to the following question:

President Jacob Zuma has pleasure to announce the appointment of new members of the National Planning Commission in the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, for a period of five years. (The list of names is followed by the mandate of the NPC and biographical summaries of each member.)

The President has appointed the following members:
1.    Mr Jeffrey Thamsanqa Radebe,
Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation - as Chairperson

A lot of what is argued about on skills-universe concerns economic systems - ideas about what governments should and shouldn't do - how much should they regulate.

One side says drop all regulation and everything will fall into place, the economy will grow and everything will be solved.

So it is always good to get some evidence from the results of international organisations reports.

A happy Workers Day to everyone,

Two projects worth pursuing this weekend:

1.   Buy a copy of the new Big Issue - The sellers are working to make a living for themselves, they are not begging or asking for handouts.  Help people trying to help themselves and reduce poverty.  For R20 it's full of really interesting articles:

MDG Momentum: UN launches 500 days of action to build a better world

United Nations, 19 August 2014

New York, 18 August 2014 – With Malala Yousafzai by his side, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today marked 500 days of action until the deadline to reach the Millennium Development Goals, known worldwide as the “MDGs.”

By More Matshediso

South Africa is set to join other UN member countries to thrash out long-term measures to beat poverty and widespread inequality.

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini will today be among the panellists sitting in the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York.

The minister is expected to make a presentation on long-term solutions to end the cycle of poverty and inequality.

When Nelson Mandela died I made some notes for an article - on what I thought were the lessons of his life.  I never wrote them up then.  But reading them now they are relevant thoughts for Human Rights Day.

I would like to hear whether you agree or disagree with my thoughts:

1. Democracy does not automatically resolve poverty.

2. There is no dignity or freedom in poverty.

3. There is no enduring/sustainable freedom while others remain in poverty.
