Hi Des, the approach you have advocated I have used for some time and it has work well in identifying employees needs, the organisations needs and for career and succession planning. I would not change a proven recipe for the sake of change. What is critical is how organisations implement and utilise this approach. One aspect that has been ommitted is interventions that are required where organisational developement/change is identified. This also forms part of an employees development in conjunction with organisational needs.
