Final tally: 86.1% of survey respondents want to complete a bachelors in training and development

Tackling continuing professional development (CPD) in the education, training and development sector is challenging for both organisations and practitioners. With the vast amount of training providers offering a range of programmes to cater to the markets needs. Not unexpected though, at the end of the day, many practitioners want a degree to reflect their competence and level of professionalism.

36 professionals in education and training completed the short survey. 86.1% definitely want to complete a degree and what was interesting about this result, was that for some it was more about personal development, not just personal development. The preferred modes of learning and assessment was part-time, distance learning and via recognition of prior learning (RPL). There also was considerable interest in blended-learning, utilising elearning in conjunction with some other mode of learning, or assessment.

Now in no specific order of preference or comment on quality are the South African universities offering under-degrees in training and development or human resource development.

1. North West University, Potchefstroom Campus.
2. Tswane University of Technology, Pretoria/Tswane.
3. Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town.
4. Vaal University of Technology, Vaal Triangle.

A big thanks must to the survey respondents for their interesting comments and inputs. I really do appreciate your support for my research into this subject. Any further inputs and discussions are welcome.

Regards
Ashwell
