Hi, can someone please advise me where to look for an example of a moderator's guide for a unit standard on oral communication and level 1. Actually the format for a moderator's guide for any unit standard will suffice. Thanks in anticipation, Audrey Tarnanis

Information for all re ASDFSA - website is www.asdfsa.co.za.

AGM and Annual Conference is being held on 7 Sept 10 at the Sunnyside Park Hotel. Please go to the website or contact Nikki Wimmers on nikki@eclipse1.co.za for booking details.

Re the ASDFSA here is a bit about our achievements taken from a letter sent to me by Gill Connella, Chair of the ASDFSA:
"In all honesty, it took a lot longer than we all thought to actually become “recognised” as a professional association. However, this has changed and is changing rapidly.

• We have now become a recognised and valued partner of the Department of Labour and we have established an even stronger relationship with Mary Metcalfe and Adrienne Bird and their relevant departments of DHET and the QCTO.

• We have lobbied on behalf of skills practitioners and skills administrators
o We applied for, were accepted and are developing two occupational award programs for our members. These occupational award programs will give members access to continuous professional development – the model for this is being developed by Dr Michele Serfontein
o We have addressed the National Skills conference and given inputs on more than one occasion
o We have lobbied for our members at public hearings on the SETA landscape and NSDS3
o We have submitted extensive documents and recommendations to the NSA regarding the national skills development strategy
o We meet regularly with various SETA CEOs and other senior staff to ensure awareness of our developing and professional role

• As our association has a primarily a business advising/consulting focus, we are registered as a schedule 1 company with the Services SETA. This allows us to be recognised as a legitimate member of the Services SETA with all the requisite benefits including –
o We currently hold the Chair of the General Business Chamber Board
o All our regions are represented on the General Business Board
o We hold a seat on the Council
o We hold the Chair of the ETQA subcommittee
o We hold seats on the Management Council for developing occupational awards
o We hold a seat on the Disability subcommittee
o We hold a seat on the Transformation Council
o We hold a seat on the Discretionary Funding subcommittee

o We have recently been invited to join the Business Coalition of South Africa (BCSA) which is a member of Business Unity South Africa(BUSA) and holds various seats on Nedlac and has representation to the ILO.

• We have been accepted by SAQA as the relevant and recognised Association for Skills Development Practitioners and Administrators and now hold a seat on the Career Development Consultative Forum of SAQA

• We are seeking professional alliances with a number of Associations that have synergies with ours and have been in discussion with them for some time now.

• We hold regular meetings (coffee mornings) and breakfast events around the country to keep our members informed on latest developments etc.

• Our member “media” specialist has access to a vast number of contacts within government and parliament and he regularly sends updated documents and information regarding various portfolio committees and other activities in skills. Jim also writes regular newsletters which have comprehensive and detailed information for skills development specialists.

• We are regularly invited to address and chair a number of conferences in strategic skills development issues, including private provider forums, RPL, BBBEE etc.

For a long time in Gauteng we had virtually no continuity in leadership, but since Janelle Gravett has taken over in the last year or so, Gauteng is really beginning to take shape and is participating actively (as it should have been doing ages ago)."
