Open for comment - Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill

The public are invited to comment on the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill (B 2B 2022). 

The intention is to ensure the Constitutional right under section 29(1) to a basic education & secondly, to align with developments in education.  

Two acts require amendment, namely: the South African Schools Act 84 of 1996, and the Employment of Educators Act 76 of 1998. 

Of particular interest is the intention to make Grade R attendance compulsory. Full details of the key contents are available on the Parliamentary Monitoring Group site:

Comments are to be submitted by Friday 19 January 2023 16h00.
