When watching weather forecasts - especially those that have the globe circulating, have you noticed exactly how big the African continent is compared to other countries and continents? Then on top of that, imagine a continent that size, with a population of young people. I haven't checked the latest stats - but it's something like the majority of the continent is under 35.
Skills-universe members are already committed to education and training. Just imagine the power of a continent that size, with young people trained and educated to be effective employees, or to create employment for themselves and others.
So, a few months ago, Joe Samuels asked me to create this group - knowing that this was an area of future development.
I have permission from Ms Eduarda Castel-Branco of ETF, to publish and circulate the attached document, published by:
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the European Training Foundation (ETF).
This mapping document - and there will be more to follow - sets out the origination with the African Union (AU) in 2019.
This initiative of the AU envisages an African continent, which has a Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), with persons moving within the continent. There are a range of developmental processes and policies already established, such as: Agenda 2063, and the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA).
Consequently, a continental qualifications framework will support "comparability, quality and transparency of qualifications from all sub-sectors and levels of education and training; to facilitate recognition of diplomas and certificates, and mobility of learners and workers".
Clearly, there is much to be done to work in alignment with the various national and regional qualifications frameworks that have been created, such as ours - and then internationally.
