Can someone tell me whether this is still being developed?  I would like to start working on a number of projects where I need the occupational qualifications.  I need to define required learning for competence to practice an occupation or occupational specialisation.  As far as I know the QCTO started with this project and will submit this document to SAQA.  Anyone know the progress on this project?

Hi - it is very much going forward. Qualifications as you know them will all expire by 2016 - at which time the OQF will be in full swing - with development currently commencing for the occupationally directed qualifications.
Hi Maria,  Do you have any information on what qualifications are being prioritised?  Who has decided upon that?
Morning Sylvia - no, I can only advise you on those prioritised by the HWSETA. But the process being followed currently is the same at all SETA's. They are going to be working with experts in the field of certain learning programmes and revising them to meet the requirements of an occupationally directed qualification. Where the current qualifications are driven against the 30-70% ratio of theory and practical - the focus will be more on the workplace. The workplace too, will need to be accredited in order to enable the delivery of the new qualifications. Qualifications will be written already linked to an occupation against the OFO.

Good morning Maria, Christine and Sylvia

Several SETA's have been designated as Quality Development Partners by the QCTO for specific qualifications, which they (the specific SETA) have determined as a priority area. I know of several SETA's developing qualifications in the OLS and QCTO format, including WR SETA, MICT and Services SETA. The prioritization is still being determined by the SETA and with constituent input from the levy-payers.

I am pretty confident that there are other SETA's working on the process too right now.

My best, Ashwell

a nightmare is about to befall us all in this regard!

For more info specifically on the QCTO you can visit the CATHSSETA website:

http://www.theta.org.za/etqa/default.asp?thepage=qcto/default.htm

Info related to code of conduct, curriculum and assessment policy, delegation policy and fee structures.

Hope it helps.

You can visit the SAQA website as applications for development of occupational qualifications are now available. just remember you will require alignment of such qualifications to the OFO. The application is for quality partners. Maria

Dear Christine

The QCTO are busy with this, in conjuction with organisations like the Professional bodies, large employers/industry sectors. The Setas are also involved and would be your best point of reference for information right now. Hope that helps!

hi Maria,

how to qualify to become a "quality partner" with SAQA or is it just for the elite few (as they like to do)?

thanks. Paul.

This is most insightful. It is so easy to get caught up in day to day drama in the workplace and forget about such critical updates. Thumbs up guys.

Thse policies are only in draft format at present, though - even those on the theta website - theyw ere heavily criticised ate the stakeholder meeting

Hi PAUL - as long as you are a SME in your field and have backing from a few other organisations / providers in your sector - you MUST apply to be a quality partner. Remember that this system - from 2016 - is going to work very different to how it currently is operating. All SETA ETQA Departments - as we know them - will no longer exist and will now form part of QCTO itself!
